At Step Above, our licensed and qualified clinicians provide comprehensive clinical assessments to better understand each individual’s mental health, substance use, and overall functioning. These assessments are a critical first step in identifying appropriate levels of care and developing an effective, personalized treatment plan.

Our clinicians conduct thorough evaluations that explore presenting concerns, behavioral health history, medical background, substance use patterns, and current life stressors. This process allows us to gain a full picture of each client’s needs and determine the most appropriate services, whether outpatient therapy, intensive outpatient (2.1), partial hospitalization (2.5), or residential care (3.1).

Assessments are completed in a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients are encouraged to openly share their experiences. Our clinicians use evidence-based tools and clinical expertise to ensure accurate diagnoses, proper service recommendations, and compliance with Virginia Medicaid (DMAS) requirements.
